Melanie Hughey

With a background in exercise science and psychology, Melanie applies a holistic approach to her work, ranging from school-based practice to transitional support for individuals who are incarcerated or reentering society after incarceration.

Melanie specializes in individualized and group interventions that address the specific needs of students with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, and other developmental delays, including fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, executive functioning, and social engagement. She strives to provide individualized and client centered interventions.

Melanie’s clinical experience includes Fieldwork at Farmington Hills School District, where she provided comprehensive OT services, participated in IEP meetings, and collaborated with teachers and staff. She also worked with Life After Incarceration, where she supported individuals transitioning from incarceration by understanding and creating goals around their habits and routines, self care, self-efficacy, executive functioning, and social skills.

Melanie worked at Southwest Cook County Cooperative providing school based Occupational therapy services to students and ensuring access and participation throughout the school day.

Her dedication to continuous professional development is evident in her active pursuit of new knowledge and techniques, which she incorporates into her practice to improve outcomes for her clients. Melanie holds a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Eastern Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Adrian College, where she also minored in psychology
